Josh Hader Yet to resume throwing
Fri, Sep 12, 2025, 5:04 PM
Hader (shoulder) has yet to resume throwing, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Hader has yet to resume throwing since being shut down Aug. 15 due to a left shoulder capsule injury. The 31-year-old previously indicated that he'd need roughly three weeks to ramp up once cleared to throw. It's unclear when he'll start throwing at this point, but his postseason availability will be threatened if he doesn't begin soon.
Isaac Paredes
Isaac Paredes To take live BP
Fri, Sep 12, 2025, 4:49 PM
Paredes (hamstring) will take live batting practice Saturday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Paredes is making progress in his recovery from a torn right hamstring and will hit off live pitching Saturday. The Astros are hoping to get Paredes back before the end of the regular season, but the third baseman will likely require a lengthy minor-league rehab stint before being activated.
Colton Gordon
Colton Gordon Recalled from Triple-A
Fri, Sep 12, 2025, 4:33 PM
The Astros recalled Gordon from Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Gordon will take the 26-man roster spot vacated by Lance McCullers, who was placed on the 15-day IL with right hand soreness. Gordon will be available out of the bullpen Friday versus Atlanta. He's appeared in 16 games for the Astros this season, making 14 starts, and has a 5.67 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 64:15 K:BB across 73 innings of work.
Lance McCullers Jr.
Lance McCullers Jr. Placed on 15-day IL
Fri, Sep 12, 2025, 4:29 PM
The Astros placed McCullers on the 15-day injured list Friday due to right hand soreness, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: McCullers returned to Houston to be evaluated, and the Astros have recalled Colton Gordon from Triple-A Sugar Land in a corresponding move. McCullers threw two innings out of the bullpen in Thursday's loss to the Blue Jays and allowed one run on two hits and one walk with zero strikeouts. On the season, McCullers owns a 6.88 ERA, 1.85 WHIP and 57:38 K:BB across 52.1 innings.
Yainer Diaz
Yainer Diaz Resting Friday
Fri, Sep 12, 2025, 3:41 PM
Diaz is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Atlanta.
Analysis: Diaz will take a seat Friday after making five consecutive starts behind the plate, allowing Victor Caratini to catch. Diaz has logged multiple hits in three of his last five games.
Jeremy Pena
Jeremy Pena Getting rare day off
Fri, Sep 12, 2025, 3:36 PM
Pena is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Atlanta.
Analysis: Pena will get the night off after making 24 consecutive starts at shortstop. He went 24-for-101 (.238) with two home runs, seven doubles and three stolen bases during that stretch. Mauricio Dubon will bat ninth and play shortstop Friday.
Luis Garcia
Luis Garcia Season officially over
Fri, Sep 12, 2025, 3:27 PM
The Astros transferred Garcia to the 60-day injured list Friday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Garcia was placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with right elbow discomfort, so Garcia will be ineligible to return in 2025 after Friday's move. Specifics regarding the right-hander's injury are unclear at this point, but he'll have a full offseason to recover. AJ Blubaugh is the leading candidate to fill Garcia's spot in the rotation the rest of the way.
Cesar Salazar
Cesar Salazar Sent back to Triple-A
Fri, Sep 12, 2025, 3:22 PM
Houston optioned Salazar to Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: With Yainer Diaz and Victor Caratini at full health, Salazar is expendable. He'll lose his spot on the active roster in order for Zach Cole to have his contract selected. Salazar is 3-for-13 (.231) with a 2:2 BB:K in 11 big-league games this season.
Cristian Javier
Cristian Javier Falls to Blue Jays
Thu, Sep 11, 2025, 5:02 PM
Javier (1-3) took the loss Thursday against Toronto, allowing four runs on six hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out six.
Analysis: Javier got off to a rocky start Thursday, allowing two runs in the opening inning before giving up a lead-off homer to Davis Schneider in the second. Javier would eventually settle in and hold the Jays to one run over his final four frames, though he'd ultimately come away with the loss in a 6-0 defeat. In six starts since rejoining Houston's rotation, the 28-year-old Javier's posted a 4.78 ERA with a 1.29 WHIP and 26:13 K:BB across 26.1 innings. He's currently scheduled to face the Rangers at home in his next outing.
Jake Meyers
Jake Meyers Getting day off Thursday
Thu, Sep 11, 2025, 11:19 AM
Meyers is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game in Toronto.
Analysis: Meyers started each of the Astros' first four games upon his return from the injured list, but he will take a seat during Thursday's matinee. Mauricio Dubon will patrol center field in Meyers' stead.
Carlos Correa
Carlos Correa Records 200th career homer
Wed, Sep 10, 2025, 9:32 PM
Correa went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 3-2 win over Toronto.
Analysis: Correa blasted his 13th homer of the season and the 200th of his excellent career. The slugging infielder now has at least one hit in eight of his first nine outings in September as well. Correa had a middling .705 OPS for the Twins this year, but he's slashing .297/.354/.455 with six long balls, five doubles, 19 RBI and 18 runs scored over 158 plate appearances for the Astros to improve his OPS to .737 for the campaign.
Bryan Abreu
Bryan Abreu Bounces back with fifth save
Wed, Sep 10, 2025, 9:24 PM
Abreu picked up the save Wednesday against Toronto, striking out one in a clean ninth inning.
Analysis: One night after blowing a save against the Blue Jays, Abreu rebounded with his fifth save of the season Wednesday. The hard-throwing right-hander has fanned at least one in nine consecutive outings, and he remains in position to close out the regular season as Houston's stopper in the absence of closer Josh Hader (shoulder). Through 66 frames, Abreu has a 2.45 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 101:29 K:BB.
Jason Alexander
Jason Alexander Blanks Toronto over seven innings
Wed, Sep 10, 2025, 8:54 PM
Alexander didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Blue Jays, allowing three hits and one walk in seven shutout innings. He struck out three.
Analysis: Alexander entered the month of August with a dismal 7.36 ERA in 2025, but he's turned a corner ever since. The right-hander has logged four quality starts over his last seven outings, improving his ERA to 4.19 for the campaign during that stretch. Additionally, Wednesday's appearance was his longest of the season. Alexander also has a serviceable 1.31 WHIP and 55:23 K:BB across 66.2 frames overall, and he's next lined up to get the ball for a crucial matchup against the division-rival Rangers next week.
Mauricio Dubon
Mauricio Dubon Idle Wednesday
Wed, Sep 10, 2025, 4:39 PM
Dubon is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays.
Analysis: Dubon picked up starts in second base and in left field in the Astros' previous two contests, but he'll hit the bench Wednesday while Houston goes with Ramon Urias and Yordan Alvarez at those respective positions. So far in September, Dubon has gone 4-for-16 with a double, two walks, two RBI and one run in seven games.
Nick Hernandez
Nick Hernandez Summoned from Triple-A
Wed, Sep 10, 2025, 4:06 PM
The Astros recalled Hernandez from Triple-A Sugar Land on Wednesday.
Analysis: After a month-long stay at Triple-A, Hernandez will rejoin the Houston bullpen as a replacement on the active roster for right-hander Luis Garcia (elbow), who was placed on the 15-day injured list. Over five relief appearances with the Astros this season, Hernandez has submitted a 5.40 ERA, 1.95 WHIP and 7:5 K:BB in 6.2 innings.
Luis Garcia
Luis Garcia Back on IL with elbow discomfort
Wed, Sep 10, 2025, 4:02 PM
The Astros placed Garcia on the 15-day injured list due to right elbow discomfort.
Analysis: After missing more than two seasons of big-league action while recovering from Tommy John surgery and associated complications, Garcia was activated from the injured list Sept. 1 but made just two starts for Houston before experiencing more elbow trouble. The Astros don't yet have an updated diagnosis for Garcia after he exited midway through the second inning of his start in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to Toronto, but more clarity on that front should arrive once the right-hander undergoes an MRI. Even if Garcia's upcoming tests reveal no long-term concern, his history of elbow problems suggests he's unlikely to make it back from the IL before the end of the regular season. AJ Blubaugh tossed 3.1 innings of long relief after Garcia exited Tuesday's contest, so Blubaugh could be the next man up to enter the rotation when Garcia's turn comes up again Sunday in Atlanta.
Jose Altuve
Jose Altuve Day off amidst slump
Wed, Sep 10, 2025, 3:29 PM
Altuve is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest in Toronto.
Analysis: Altuve enters action Wednesday having gone just 2-for-29 at the plate over his last seven games, so he will get a day off to regroup. Ramon Urias will handle second base and Victor Caratini will be in the designated-hitter spot for the Astros.
Yainer Diaz
Yainer Diaz RBI in three straight games
Wed, Sep 10, 2025, 9:24 AM
Diaz went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI on Tuesday against the Blue Jays.
Analysis: Diaz has performed well in September, collecting at least one hit in five of his eight starts while also tallying four doubles. He's hit particularly well since the start of Houston's weekend series against the Rangers, going 5-for-14 with five RBI and a run scored in his last three starts.
Carlos Correa
Carlos Correa Pops 12th homer
Wed, Sep 10, 2025, 9:17 AM
Correa went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk Tuesday against the Blue Jays.
Analysis: Correa popped his home run in the first inning, bringing his total on the season to 12. He's hit well recently, recording at least one hit in seven of his last eight starts while hitting .278 with two homers, five RBI and five runs scored. Correa continues to hit in a premium spot in the Houston lineup, and he hit third Tuesday night while flipping spots with Jose Altuve.
Yordan Alvarez
Yordan Alvarez Another three-hit effort
Wed, Sep 10, 2025, 9:07 AM
Alvarez went 3-for-5 with a double Tuesday against the Blue Jays.
Analysis: Alvarez continued his tear at the plate, as he tallied at least three hits for the fourth time in his last six starts. He has five extra-base hits, five RBI and four runs scored in that span. In 13 games since returning from a hand injury, Alvarez has hit an impressive .444 with three homers, nine RBI and eight runs scored.
